KONAMI has officially revealed the first details about the upcoming eFootball 2027 season update, with version 6.0 set to introduce several new gameplay features and systems.

During the eFootball CONNECT in World Festival livestream, KONAMI confirmed that the new season will focus on bringing deeper tactics, the fun of tournaments, and other ways to enjoy matches. Here’s everything announced for the eFootball 2027 v6.0 update.

Custom Tournament feature arrives in eFootball

I’d say one of the surprising additions coming with version 6.0 is the new Custom Tournament feature. This allows players to create their own tournaments or participate in tournaments hosted by other users. You will be able to customise tournament rules and settings and organise matches with friends and communities.

The feature is part of KONAMI’s new “Play On All Together” concept, which is a really nice addition that definitely helps in organizing competition-format matches in the long run.

New Team Playstyle: Overload

A brand-new Team Playstyle called Overload will be introduced in eFootball 2027. Unlike existing playstyles such as Possession Game and Long Ball Counter, Overload focuses on creating numerical advantages around the ball.

When attacking, more players will move towards the ball carrier, allowing teams to maintain possession through shorter passing options. Defensively, teams will stay compact and close down opponents faster. You can expect this to be a more “gegenpressing” option compared to the likes of Quick Counter.

KONAMI also confirmed that new managers with high proficiency in the Overload playstyle will arrive alongside the update.

Separate attacking and defending formations added

Straight up, the best addition that is coming with the eFootball 2027 season update is the ability to set different formations depending on whether your team is attacking or defending.

This will allow us to create more flexible tactical setups, such as pushing fullbacks higher while attacking or dropping wingers deeper when defending. Let us consider the Overload tactic with the midfield push, and then having possession when on the ball, having the DMF drop as a makeshift CB during attack.

The change should give players more freedom when building their Dream Teams and also make use of substitutions the best way. Position Trainers are way more useful with this addition now.

Managers with two Link-Up Plays are coming

While the celebration of a new Playstyle and freedom to choose formations during transitions definitely expands our options, premium Managers might get extra costly. Version 6.0 will also expand the Link-Up Play system, where some new managers will arrive with two Link-Up Plays.

This is going to be interesting, as now you will not only have the flexibility of choosing your tactics but also Link-Up. I’m not too sure if we can select both the Link-Up Plays as per our Attacking and Defending formations, but if we could do that, it would just get even more lethal and a lot to think about.

Gameplay changes coming with Season Update

KONAMI is also making gameplay adjustments in version 6.0. We will now be able to perform volley shots from mid-air situations by using Stunning Shots. The Daily Game feature is also being redesigned, named the Daily Super Play, which may present us with different tasks as shown, so that’s something we can look forward to.

The eFootball 2027 season update will arrive in August 2026, with KONAMI expected to reveal more information through another eFootball CONNECT episode before launch. I expect the maintenance to begin on the 13th of August, when all the events are ending, so it might take a couple of days before the latest season goes live.
