SQUARE ENIX Co.,Ltd. has announced the shutdown of its beloved MMORPG, FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE, with the Chinese version set to end services on September 30, 2026. The mobile adaptation, developed by LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS under the supervision of FINAL FANTASY XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida and members of the original dev team, will conclude its journey less than a year after launch.

Unfortunately, the FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE (Chinese Edition) Operations Team announced via the official site that the game would shutdown on September 30, stating, “Due to adjustments in business operations and changes in the market environment, Tencent and Square Enix have, through amicable negotiation, decided to terminate the licensing agreement.”

In-app purchases have ended, and a global version is no longer happening

Following the shutdown news, the team has already disabled new user registrations and in-app purchases. You can continue exploring Eorzea until the servers officially close in September, after which both the game servers and the official website will become inaccessible. After that, the game’s forums and dedicated customer support are set to close on October 15, 2026.

But perhaps the biggest announcement, however, is the confirmation that FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE will not receive a global release. Plus, fans won’t get any refunds too.

Many fans, including me, outside China had been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to experience the mobile adaptation. One disappointed player even said, “Very sad honestly, it was quite cool,” while one pointed out that it was“a completely separate licensed game,” making the shutdown slightly easier to understand.
