University of Silicon Valley is offering scholarships based on verified video game achievements.

All those hours spent grinding games might finally help pay for college. The University of Silicon Valley (USV) is offering its Max Achievement Scholarship, which allows eligible students to qualify for financial awards and scholarships based on verified accomplishments across popular video games.

And no, we are not just talking about professional esports players or tournament winners. The scholarship recognizes in-game achievements across MMORPGs, live-service games, roguelikes, strategy titles, survival games, and even platform-wide trophy hunting.

Genshin Impact is included under the Mastery Tier of USV’s MMORPG and Live Service Games category. To meet its listed requirement, players need to have completed all Archon Quests and reached Friendship Level 10 with eight characters. The achievement can be verified through HoYoLAB or screenshots.

Minecraft also finds a place, where players can reach the Legendary Tier by completing all 115+ advancements, with the university viewing the achievement as a demonstration of comprehensive systems mastery.

According to the university’s award structure, Mastery Tier accomplishments can earn up to $2,500 per term, while Legendary Tier accomplishments can be worth up to $5,000 per term. With three terms per year, the total scholarship award can reach up to $15,000 annually, although the final amount is determined by the tier earned alongside an evaluation of the student’s essay and academic readiness.

The scholarship is open to incoming first-year, transfer, and graduate students who have been admitted to the University of Silicon Valley. Every submitted achievement must have been personally earned and must be verifiable through the listed method, such as an official game profile, platform account, API, or screenshots.
